Sterling resident Carl Frye, 59, was arrested over the weekend and charged with multiple weapons offenses following "proactive enforcement" by the Leesburg Police Department, officials say.

Before midnight on Friday, Oct. 11, officers from the agency were on patrol in the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Road, where they came across a group of people drinking in an area parking lot.

Upon exiting his vehicle, police say that the group ran from the officer, though Frye stopped, at which point they noticed he had a gun hidden in his waistband.

He was detained, the gun was recovered, and it was later determined that Frye was both a convicted felon and intoxicated when he was apprehended.

Frye was charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon;
  • Carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon;
  • Removal or alteration of the serial number (firearm);
  • Drunk in public.

He's being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.
